How Nature Can Restore Mental Clarity
A Busy Mind = A Busy Life: How Nature Can Restore Mental Clarity
Ever felt like life is moving too fast, and you can’t catch your breath?
I’ve spent the last few days at Dash Point RV Park, just south of Seattle, preparing to embark on my 58 marathons journey.
As soon as I arrived, I found myself surrounded by what I can only describe as my definition of beauty—never thought I’d say that about an RV park. Nestled within a state park, its natural charm provided me with an immediate sense of calm.
The towering pine trees, the crisp air, and the quiet solitude reminded me just how rich life can be, even without all the bells and whistles.
It’s a stark contrast to what we’re often taught to pursue and focus on.
Spending most of my time in the city, I’ve come to realise how much it over stimulates my mind:
• Feeling like I’m not good enough.
• The constant need to work harder.
• Always seeking the next source of stimulation.
It’s exhausting. And more than that—it’s distracting.
So much so that it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters.
Don’t get me wrong—cities offer endless opportunities and a lot of upside when it comes to progress in life. But sometimes, it’s nice to be reminded that when the world feels like it’s caving in, I can step back into nature to restore my peace of mind.
For me, being in nature creates clarity.
And with a clear mind, I rediscover my purpose and regain a sense of control.
It’s a powerful frame of mind to live in.
“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” – John Muir
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, here’s a question for you:
When was the last time you stepped into nature and truly allowed your mind to slow down?
Take 10 minutes today—step outside, breathe deeply, and see how it feels.
As I prepare to tackle 58 marathons, I know that clarity and peace of mind will be my greatest allies. Without them, this challenge would feel impossible.
I’m now just two days away from kicking off my challenge: 58 marathons | 58 states | 58 days.
Follow the journey, and if you’d like to support, consider donating to our charity partner, the Mental Awareness Foundation.
